Anyone with a wordpress.com blog knows how frustrating the lack of java script can be (even if it is for the greater good). Something as simple as giving your readers an easy way to share your post on a variety of social bookmarking sites becomes and elaborate copy and paste job that has to be done manually with each and every post. Enter a lifesaver of a Greasemonkey userscipt which makes the process almost completely automated.For those of you unfamiliar with Greasemonkey – it’s a Firefox Addon (which you can find here) which allows you to customize the appearance or functionality of a webpage by installing userscripts which can be found here.

The userscript that allows you to easily add a list of social bookmarking sites at the end of each wordpress post can be found here. This usercript is extremely simple and requires no configuration – simply click the install button and its ready for use.

Back in WordPress, once your post has been published, go back to the editing page and, in your Firefox browser, click on Tools >> Greasemonkey >> Userscript Commands >> Generate Social Code. A window will pop up with the code to be added at the end of your post. Nothing will happen if you click on the button if the post is still unpublished. (Or right click on the Greasemonkey logo in the bottom right hand corner >> Usercript Commands >> Generate Social Code).

Make sure you are editing the post as HTML – and paste the code at the end of the post that has already been published. Once you return to the visual tab, you can easily remove any icons to social bookmarking sites you do not want to include in your post.
